About Josh Smith
California born, I’ve grown up enjoying the outdoors since I was first able to carry my own backpack. The mighty Sierra Nevada mountains have always been my eastern border into untold beauty and adventure. For nearly a decade I lived in the Sequoia National Park—its lakes, forests and mountains were my inspiration. In those years I enjoyed getting to know the land and the rhythm of its seasons. My passion for landscape photography was born from those years spent capturing the changing beauty of the world around me. Even after years of traveling abroad, I always return to the Sierra with a profound sense of homecoming.
Long before I had the words to explain why, I realized that time spent in wild places gave me a sense of calm and majesty I could not find anywhere else. I seek in my art to portray the beautiful essence of unique and untamed places, and provide similar inspiration—in moments of delight—to others interested in sharing an enduring sense of wonder and deep appreciation for the world all around us. Natural beauty has the ability to repatriate our souls with wonder.
God deserves all credit for the magic in my art. My fine art photographs are a direct reflection of my eagerness to glorify Him in all I do. Aiming to capture His handiwork is just another extension of that life purpose. When others appreciate my work, it’s a reminder that my talents are a gift from Him. I hope His presence shines through in every image. My greatest passion is to get up, get out, and feel the Creator’s presence in the midst of his handiwork.
