About Ann Lentell
When I was a little girl at summer camp near Dinkey Creek, I used my dad’s Brownie camera to take photos of the creek, rocks and surrounding area. They weren’t very good, but I still enjoyed the idea of capturing the beauty of nature. I got my first ‘real’ camera as a high school graduation present. I really enjoyed it for a while, then life hit. I set down my camera for quite a while.
A few years ago, I decided to get back into photography with another ‘real’ camera and was more diligent this time, even taking a few college courses. One thing I have learned is that my creativity is sparked more by what I see rather than what I imagine. That is, I tend to ‘capture’ photos rather than ‘create’ them. I enjoy trying to capture all sorts of images; abstract, macro images, black and white, and panoramic. I really enjoy taking my camera when my husband and I travel, to capture our memories and the beauty of our destination. Another thing my photography has done recently is to allow my husband and I to use a different photo each year and pair it with an appropriate Bible verse for our Christmas card. We both love the opportunity to show God’s creation and character to our family and friends in this way.
I have several hobbies, so I consider myself someone who takes pictures vs a photographer, especially considering the awesome company I keep with the other members of the S2 group. They are all wonderful photographers and I learn so much from them every time we gather. Their support and encouragement is a driving force behind me continuing to challenge myself and keep going when I feel like that little girl with the Brownie camera again.
